Q & A
REAL QUESTIONS -- REAL ANSWERS!
Is a picture really worth 1000 words? No, adjusted for inflation, a picture is now worth 7,432 words.
Why do I have to pay to get professional pictures taken? My uncle has a cool digital camera and he takes cute pictures of the kids. If you are an actor, model or on-camera professional, images that sell and market “you” are the single most important investment you need to make. You want professionally photographed and styled images because you want to get professional on-camera jobs. Whether or not you are with a talent agency, your images will be competing with professionals, not just locally but nationally in many cases. You should work with a photographer and stylist who know the industry and what types of images might work best for you.
Do you shoot weekends? Usually only for special events.
Do you shoot weddings and family portraits? We will shoot creative individual and family portraits, as well as senior/student pictures. See our website at Lightstyles.
Do you allow smoking in the studio? Yes, but only if you can do so without the use of any tobacco products or mechanical devices. If you are capable of spontaneous human combustion, please let us know in advance, as pictures of this phenomena could fetch a nice price.
Do you allow pets? Absolutely--if trained and good with people. Just be careful they don’t upstage you! We’re especially fond of monkeys.
What is the term “Limelight?” Limelight is an old theatrical term that comes from the days when footcandles lit the rims of stages, and in order to better illuminate the actors on stage, reflectors were coated with lime--a white, chalky powder-like mineral.
Are you an Agency? No, and we will never pretend to be. We work with all legitimate agencies in St. Louis and other markets and are certainly able to make recommendations. We urge caution in dealing with any photographer who leads you to believe they are an “agent,” or any “agency” that tries to sell you photography packages and classes.
Can you get me an agent? For actors, talent, a decent resume and the right look might get you an agent; a headshot done right will certainly present you more professionally. For potential models, being the right size, having the right looks and great energy for the camera might get you in the door. We can give you the kind of direction and styling necessary to capture fantastic images that market you as an actor or model and give you valuable, professional, on-camera experience. We’ll also give you very honest feedback on your potential and can offer guidance and education on how these industries work and which agencies are legitimate. We caution people against signing up with “agencies” whose main objectives are to sell their own packages of headshots, acting and modeling classes.
Do you shoot film or digital? It is an all-digital world.
How long do you keep images? I keep files stored indefinitely; however, storage space is expensive and I cannot guarantee that after a year or two of inactive accounts I would still have your images on file. You can purchase an image buyout CD to ensure you have copies of all your images (see Prints/Pricing).
How long after the shoot will I see my proofs? Generally within a week to 10 days, I will have your private gallery posted for reviewing.
Will you work with interns? Yes, if you are 17 years old or older, have your own transportation, and a real passion for learning photography, hair/makeup artistry, or the business of running a studio.
Do you hire photographers? We sometimes work with a small, select handful of professional photographers. I am always happy to review portfolios, give advice, and look for new talent. Call or email to set up a portfolio meeting.
